Welcome to my XHTML and HTML Validation service.

Well, it's no longer 1996, so why are you still running a Web site with old junkie HTML? That's what I asked myself when I decided to re-evaluate the HTML code I was generating on my Web sites back in 2008. By using the W3C XHTML validator, I quickly learned that my markup code was far behind the times.

I tweaked my HTML templates and within no time, I was running a 100 percent XHTML valid Web site. But there was a problem. Like many Web sites, I have user-contributed content that can and will result in invalid XHTML.

To solve this problem, I decided to create a simple tool that could periodically validate my entire Web site.

After I built my validation tool, I decided it wouldn't take too much work to open this service up to everyone who wants it.

Running a Web site with valid markup not only makes you a better citizen of the Web and improves user accessibility, but I can't count the number of bugs I have found since I started validating my entire Web site. It takes a bit of effort, but being valid is worth it.

So stop running broken HTML, to see if your Web site passes validation muster, the process is simple. Just create an account, then log in and either upload a text file of URLs, or manually enter the Web addresses you need validated.

It's really that easy and the best part is that it's free.

Why am I offering this XHTML and HTML validation service and why should you bother validating your Web site?

As someone who has been building Web sites for more than 10 years, I think it's important that every Web site run valid XHTML code. Here's what the World Wide Web Consortium has to say about validating your HTML.
"One of the important maxims of computer programming is: 'Be conservative in what you produce; be liberal in what you accept.'

Browsers follow the second half of this maxim by accepting Web pages and trying to display them even if they're not legal HTML. Usually this means that the browser will try to make educated guesses about what you probably meant. The problem is that different browsers (or even different versions of the same browser) will make different guesses about the same illegal construct; worse, if your HTML is really pathological, the browser could get hopelessly confused and produce a mangled mess, or even crash.

That's why you want to follow the first half of the maxim by making sure your pages are legal HTML. The best way to do that is by running your documents through one or more HTML validators."

Converting an existing site from legacy HTML to valid XHTML can be an enormous undertaking. Plan your conversion, do it in stages and always remind yourself that what's important is progress not perfection. With perserverance, a reliable validation service and a lot of hard work, your Web site will pass validation.

Upcoming Site Enhancements
In addition to this powerful validation service, which I will continue to enhance, I will be also offering articles, links to articles and tutorials to help convert your Web site from junky old HTML to clean valid XHTML.
